• Honorary Citizen of Kolomna, Moscow area (2003)
1968 – finished Moscow Art College named after Kalinin
1977 – graduated from VGIK [All-Union State Institute of Cinematography], art department
1983 – worked for the Academy of Arts workshops under Alexei and Sergei Trachev and Alexei Gritsai
1994–2003 – taught painting at the Surikov Art Institute
2002 -2010 was a head of the Chair of painting at Kolomna Pedagogical Institute, Moscow area
Mikhail Abakumov’s paintings can be found in

Mikhail Abakumov has had one-man shows annually: in Kolomna (since 1982), in Moscow (since 1989); also, he had one-man shows in Vyatka and Ryazan (1990) and in St. Petersburg (1993)
