All-Russian Exhibition Project ‘ROMANTICISTS IN REALISTIC ART’
2007 — 2012

"ROMANTICISTS IN REALISTIC ART" is a unique exhibition project that brings back into rush of modern Russia pure sense of Russian realistic way of painting – realistic romanticism.

This artistic movement is known to have been started in Moscow by Alexei Savrasov’s students associated with Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. The movement became full-fledged in the paintings of the Union of Russian Artists and, in the twentieth century, it saw its heyday in the work of Moscow’s school of painting.

Within the project involving the Russian Artist's Union and the Moscow Artists' Union, Art Prima Gallery organized 23 solo and thematic exhibitions in Moscow - including 5 major group exhibitions of the members of "ROMANTICISTS IN REALISTIC ART" in Moscow (2007), St. Petersburg (2009), Vologda (2009), Nizhny Novgorod (2010) and Moscow (2012).

According to the spectators (over 100 000 people)  "ROMANTICISTS IN REALISTIC ART, an antirecessionary project, is one of the most actual and important events in the cultural life of the country.

"ROMANTICISTS IN REALISTIC ART" is the collection of outstanding high quality paintings with no analogs by it’s completeness and artistic significance and by that meaning it can work as a platform for the museum of Russian realistic art for the period of late XX – early XXI century.

The exposition consists of more than 200 best canvases of the members of the art association that unites fifteen well-known Russian painters: Nikita FEDOSOV , Vyacheslav ZABELIN , Vladimir SHCHERBAKOV , Alexei ZHABSKY , Vladimir TELIN , Mikhail ABAKUMOV , Sergei GAVRILYACHENKO , Yuri GRICHENKO , Nikolai ZAITSEV , Igor ORLOV , Gennady PASKO , Valery POLOTNOV , Valery STRAKHOV , Alexei SUKHOVETSKY and Aleksander TSYPLAKOV . Paintings of these artists can be found in The State Tretyakov Gallery, The State Russian Museum and many others State Fine Art Museums and Galleries of Russian Federation.

The visitors of the exhibition  will get a rare chance to familiarize themselves with the work of the contemporary “romanticists” working in realistic manner, which began with the great Russian landscape-painter Alexei Savrasov.

The paintings  of "ROMANTICISTS IN REALISTIC ART" embodying the peak of the Russian realistic tradition, encompasses poetical feelings, musicality, joy of life, a sensibility of love towards the native land.

Realistic in painterly manner and romantic in meaning, the paintings in question celebrate the beauty of this world and are absolutely devoid of any "practical considerations": social reasons, criticism or moralizing.

The early twentieth century buried the ideas of Critical Realism as well as the ideas of Socialist Realism died under the debris of another outlived ideology at the end of the twentieth century. Only Romantic Realism remains alive at the beginning of the twenty-first century, manifesting the victory of the unique Russian realistic tradition in art, which is so much appreciated all over the world.
